For David Obey of Wisconsin, the decision not to seek reelection came earlier this year. After more than 40 years representing his district, Obey said it was simply time to go. But like so many others on Capitol Hill, his parting comes with a swipe at the current political climate in Washington.
In this First Person account, the congressman looks back on a career which stretched for decades and the partisan warfare which has taken a turn for the worse... in that it turned into a "touting for money" and spreading "30-seconds negative, nasty sound bites saying the worst things about your opponent" [...].
